Enrichment

Contrary to popular belief – reptiles need mental stimulation. We call this enrichment and it’s an important part of a healthy environment for any animal. Whilst I’m certainly not suggesting that reptiles need a bone and ball or that they can play fetch, etc. Something to climb over, hide under, move through etc all create different sensations to the body of your corn snake. Simply providing a water bowl and single hide will not provide this enrichment, though it does cover the ‘basics’.

Branches, tree limbs, rocks and vegetation all provide enrichment. Ensure you properly decontaminate these if sourcing from outside or you risk introducing different germs or mites into your corn snake’s enclosure. All of these can be easily purchased in places like here or here. Even plastic or imitation versions of these are excellent to provide some form of stimulation.

Ensure whatever you provide has no sharp edges to avoid injury and is stable enough to avoid falling onto your corn snake. Remember these are for mental and physical stimulation – they’re not there to create hazards for your corn snake.
